Red Dot Design Award 2018

Break 243 – “excellence collection”

We have received the great news that we are the winners of the internationally renowned Red Dot award in the category Fashion Design 2018. The panel of experts awards the internationally recognised seal of quality only to products that win them over with the excellence of their design. We are delighted to have once again been chosen by this year’s jury and proudly present the winning frame.

The ROLF model Break from the excellence collection is a combination of the two natural materials stone and wood, with a highly precise two-tone finish and incorporates the company’s innovative FLEXLOCK hinge technology. Our new hinge made of wood and natural rubber enables movement in all directions, the layered structure of the slate giving each section of stone a living appearance.

Statement by the jury:

The glasses gain merit by their non-metallic and screw-free hinge technology. The design in the natural materials of wood, stone and rubber is also exciting.

About ROLF Spectacles:

ROLF Spectacles combines brilliant ideas with natural materials, innovative technologies and the highest craftsmanship. To this day, tradition and high quality are our top priorities. ROLF‘s high-quality, extremely light wood, stone and horn eyewear are handmade in the mountains of Tyrol. A main focus of the company is to set design trends and realize new ideas.

The Red Dot Design Award:

The Red Dot Award: Product Design dates back to 1955 and determines the best products created each year. In 2018, designers and manufacturers from 59 countries submitted more than 6,300 objects to the competition. True to the motto “In search of good design and innovation”, a jury comprising roughly 40 members assessed the products individually based on the original. The strict judging criteria, which include level of innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics and durability, provide a frame of reference which the jurors then complement with their own expertise.
